Muntjac Deer

(Muntiacus muntiak reevesi)

The Trophy

A typical Muntjac buck trophy is a 4 point head consisting of 2 unbranched main beams and 2 short brow tines, which emerge from the upper edge of the coronet. The antler is located on 2 long pedicles. The brow tines can be weakly formed, completely missing or only available on a beam. Muntjacs have visible canines, which are not part of the evaluation.

Sometimes, individuals form atypical antler formations. Individual specimens with additional brow tines or shared main beams are observed, such trophies with multiple tines are excluded from the evaluation. Trophies with missing brow tines or broken beams are not considered atypical and are evaluated.

Key Features For Measuring Antlers

  • To achieve bronze medal status, Muntjac trophies will require a main beam length of at least 10.5 cm, inside span of 11 cm, and brow tines of 1.5 cm.
  • Muntjac deer antlers must have a dry out period (after preparation) of at least 30 days before evaluation.
